Prideaux Haven is one of the 3 most popular anchorages in Desolation Sound; yet also one of the largest. The scenery and protection from all wind directions coupled with good holding, make it everyone’s favourite sundowners destination. The water is also warm enough for swimming.
The entrance into Prideaux Haven is between Scobell and Eveleigh Islands. It is tricky and should be navigated with care. It is extremely busy in the summer months and stern tie is the general rule in these coves. There are 13 stern tie mooring eyes with chain along the southwest shore of Eveleigh Island and 3 stern-tie mooring eyes with chain on the southeast side of Scobell Island and 7 stern-tie mooring eyes in Melanie Cove. Ashore you can take your dinghy at Melanie Cove and either walk North-East to Laura Cove or for a longer more adventurous trek, there is a trail also accessible from Melanie Cove at the South West side to Unwin Lake & Tenedos Bay.
