Power or Sail Vancouver? The best bits of both!

squirrel coveIf you are planning on taking advantage of the spectacular cruising ground around Vancouver Island, British Columbia, then will you choose to powerboat or sail Vancouver?
There are definite differences to both, and whichever side you come down on in the power over sail debate it is definitely worth considering both when you charter a boat and come sail Vancouver BC.

Which to choose?

Traditionally there is an element of freedom associated with sailing; the wind on your face and the calming sound of waves lapping against the bow of your yacht, however motor yachts are not just about speed and the fastest way to get to your destination, they too have their place in our sailing community, with their ability to get into shallower bays and their ability to cover more ground on your charter vacation. It would also be true to say, that more and more new sailing yachts are being built to motor yacht specifications and the looks between sail and motor yachts are becoming increasingly blurred.

Why choose Powerboats to sail Vancouver?

Kala Kala, Saltspring Island_004Well there are some really good reasons, and here at Nanaimo yacht charter we have 3 to choose from as part of our charter fleet.

They are brilliant for covering larger distances, and as we have such a large sailing ground to enjoy, it makes sense if you want to cover a large area to choose a powerboat over a yacht to sail Vancouver. Also if you only have a few days vacation, then a powerboat makes sense as you can get further over a shorter period of time.

Powerboats are also brilliant if you are spectating at events on the water, either sailing regattas or other events – on a powerboat you can get right in amongst the action on the water and out again quickly!

They also provide you with easier accessibility to certain cruising areas, they tend to have a shallower draft, which allows you to approach some areas that a traditional sailing yacht may not be able to reach.

Another great advantage to powerboats over sail, is if you don’t have the necessary experience or sail training to charter a yacht to sail Vancouver, but if you have motor boat or yacht experience then they tend to be generally easier to operate and therefore giving you access to the beautiful waters without having to undertake sail training.

Why choose Yachts to sail Vancouver?

If a sailing yacht is what you are after then of course we have a good yacht charter fleet to choose from too, as for some, the feeling of the wind taking your from place to place at a slower and quieter pace is irreplaceable.

Also of course if you don’t intend to cover much ground and more enjoy the journey and the sailing en route then of course a sailing yacht would be for you.
