If you have no idea where to start or how to get started, don’t worry! We’re here to help you feel comfortable getting out onto the water. There are several different options for you to choose from, if all you’re looking for is either an introduction to cruising or if you want to learn without completing a full, in depth course!
Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC)
For Canadian Citizens, it is required for you to hold a PCOC when operating a power-driven pleasure craft, regardless of size or your age. It is good for a lifetime, so once you have obtained your PCOC, you don’t have to worry about retaking the exam every few years.
Check out MyBoatCard.com to get your PCOC today!
CRYA Discover Cruising
Too young to complete the Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses through the CRYA or ISPA? Want to have a general understanding of the vessel without having to learn anything too in depth? This is the course for you! Learn how to assist in docking, mooring, or anchoring! Learn the terminology of the nautical sailors – which can sound like a whole different language! Check out this course to get a taste of what cruising has to offer.
CRYA Introduction to Coastal Cruising
Want to learn the basics but don’t want to necessarily complete the full Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses? Check out this fun option to get your toes wet without having to dive right in! The Introduction to Coastal Cruising booklet helps teach you the fundamentals of sailing our Coastal waters without diving too in depth.
With both the Discover Cruising and Introduction to Coastal Cruising, you can choose to also obtain a CRYA Logbook to track your progress. This is not required, but can be useful if you plan on building on your sailing resume.
