Whilst enjoying a yacht chartering holiday, it is important to know where the hot spots are for a little land down time. Gorge Harbour and Marine Resort is just the place.
Gorge Harbour lays on the edge of Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park, which is one of the world’s most prestige cruising destinations for yacht lovers thanks to its 60km of remote coastline available for exploration. The Marina Resort is a great place to stop off and relax, enjoy the multitude of facilities on offer, or simply stock up to continue your journey. You can choose to stay a few days in the campsite, a cottage, or a spacious room, or just enjoy the marina and all there is to see and do there. It is a thriving hub in what is otherwise a peaceful and isolated spot.
The marine park itself is awash with dramatic fjords, forests, and marine mammals such as Orcas and Sea Lions. If you are lucky you may even spot a black bear along the shoreline. Gorge Harbour is the perfect place to anchor the yacht after a day out exploring the marine park. The harbour and it’s marine resort is a great place to sample the gloriously warm waters for a spot of swimming. There are also a number of places to fish should you fancy catching your own dinner for a BBQ on the beach against a breath-taking sunset.
The resort has a stunning array of bars and eateries to sample, if what you have in mind is something a little more relaxing and luxurious. Of course, as you would expect there is a great deal of local fresh seafood on the menu for you to sample. Just in case the fishing trip didn’t quite provide the bounty. Should you wish to go for an after-meal stroll there are lots of trail options from Gorge Harbour too.
The harbour itself has over 1800 feet of wide protected dock which leaves plenty of room to moor up. There is a fuel dock as well as all the essentials a sailor may need such as oil, fishing rods and crab traps. The docks are open all year long, but due to the marinas popularity it is recommended to book if you know you will be travelling that way, especially between May and September.
It really is a great place to socialise with fellow Sailors and swap notes and tips. It is known as the life and soul of the yachting community for good reason, and if you are chartering a yacht with us here at Nanaimo we strongly suggest you moor up and experience all Gorge Harbour has to offer.
