ONE OF THE LARGEST AND BEST PROTECTED ANCHORAGES
Montague Harbour, Galiano Island is one of the largest and best protected anchorages in the Gulf Islands, protected from winds coming in from any direction. It is another Marine Provincial Park and is a very popular anchorage in the summer months with over 50 mooring buoys provided by the park. On the east side of the bay is a small marina and public wharf where basic groceries can be purchased.
A fairly new dining experience on the island is Woodstone Restaurant woodstonegaliano.com/dining With a 3 Michelin star rated chef and complimentary transport from Montague Harbour for the short drive to the restaurant makes this certainly worth a great outing
At the top of the hill is the Hummingbird Pub with great food and magnificent sea views – the pub offers a free shuttle service from the marina to the restaurant in the summer months. A huge success with cruising yachtsmen! hummingbirdpub.com
Retreat Cove is about 3 miles due north of Montague Harbour, is small as has room for 2 boats on the public dock and 1 boat anchored in the middle of the cove. It is a delightful lunch time stop and whilst there, well worth taking a dinghy ride to Braemer Point to explore the fascinating sandstone galleries.
Sturdies Bay and Village is located just north of the East entrance of Active Pass. It is a convenient day stop with easy access to grocery stores and cafes. BC Ferries from Tswassen stops here, however it is totally exposed to winds from the South East. This delightful stop is recommended as a day stop only.
