If you are interested in learning to sail, then we recommend you choose a sailing school that is affiliated to the CYA (Canadian Yachting Association).
The CYA is Canada’s main body for governing organization on the water. The CYA is a member of the International Sailing Federation (ISF) which means that they are ruled by the world governing body for the sport of sailing and yacht racing.
Choosing a CYA member sailing school means that you can be confident that everything you are learning is compliant with the international rules and regs on the water. The CYA is responsible for coaching national team athletes (including Olympic sailors), designing sailing and powerboating courses and registering and insuring instructors.
All CYA sailing coaches and instructors are required to sign a CYA code of conduct as they play a vital role in the tuition of all sailors. A good sailing instructor will help and encourage you to learn vital information to do with seamanship, sportsmanship and sailing in general, and all abiding by the code of conduct set by the CYA enabling you to achieve the maximum you can.
In choosing a CYA member sailing school this will give you the confidence to learn to sail with the best of instructors.
