CHEMANIUS: THE LITTLE TOWN THAT DID
Located on Vancouver Island, directly across from the islands of Thetis and Kuper, Chemanius is known as the village of murals. The marina is small, but safe and secure with all amenities available ashore.
When the mill in the town shut down, it effectively put 90% of the population out of work. Showing “pluck and fortitude” the locals bonded together and decided that the only way to survive was through tourism. They commissioned local artists to depict the history of Chemanius. Most of the walls of the buildings in the town are now adorned with outstandingly good murals. Word spread quickly and in a couple of years and many many murals later the legend of the little village that could and did!. The village is now a treasure trove of interesting shops and restaurants and a delight for visiting yachtsmen.
Call ahead to reserve your space at the marina.
Equally impressive is the theatre in Chemanius. The theatre is absolutely top notch and is a must to include in your visit. The trip to the theatre can include a four course cordon bleu meal before the show. Many of the performers are straight from Broadway shows so the entertainment is in the same category of excellence as the four course meal (dinner or brunch) Up to date entertainment schedule can be found on their website Chemanius theatre
In a nutshell, Chemanius is an inspiration to us all and is not to be missed!
