So are we all ready for Christmas with the boating season being at an end – but is your yacht in Vancouver completely ready for winter?
Bearing in mind that your yacht is probably your most valuable recreational asset – you do not want to neglect it, so make sure you have done everything you can to protect your yacht in Vancouver this winter.
It is best for a boat to be out of the water during the winter, preferably under cover in a climate-controlled boat storage area, however if your funds don’t stretch to that, and let’s be honest, not many peoples would! Another option could be to shrink-wrap your yacht? This too can be expensive, but it does provide your boat with a very protective covering keeping it super safe over the winter!
If both those options are unrealistic then the best thing you can do for your yacht is to ensure it is well covered with a sturdy, strong winter-proof cover.
Before you cover your yacht up for the winter just run through a final checklist of what needs to have happened
Make sure the hull has been thoroughly pressure washed, with no barnacles on props, shafts and rudders.
Open seacocks to ensure that all the water has drained.
Check the hull for any paint blisters and if all ok give the hull a wax job
Check your manufacturers recommendations on winterizing all the systems, such as engines, heads, etc.. and if you have not done a winterization job before then it’s worth seeking a professional’s advice to check you have covered all areas.
