Vancouver Island Yacht Charters

As we are now in the throngs of summer, we thought we would have a look at the best of island sail charter in the Vancouver area. We are so blessed in this part of the world, that we have a large number of islands to choose from around which to sail in our charters. There are literally hundreds to choose from; something which the British Columbia coastline is world renowned for. It is a picturesque playground for charterers.

In the North of Vancouver Island you find Port Hardy. This island port is a gateway to some exquisite chartering territory and also has the convenience of first rate mooring and marina facilities. Also in the area is Broughton Archipelago Marine Provincial Park (just off shore from Telegraph Cove). Throughout this marine park, you can explore several smaller islands for the perfect island sail charter experience. The North of the island is a great place to sail your charter if you are looking for something a little off the beaten track.

As you move towards the centre, things become a little more commercial and busy such as Qualicum Beach, Desolation Sound, or Lasqueti Island. The bays and coves here attract people in swathes in the hotter summer months, and it is a fun place to adventure because of the lively atmosphere all of this brings. Also on the central part of the Island you can find Campbell River. This waterway is known as the gateway to the Discovery Islands – and it really is quite as magical as it sounds. When thinking of embarking on an island sail charter, this is probably what you have in mind. The islands in this area are worth a slow and conscious exploration – a nice change of pace from other areas of the central islands.

At the South of the Island we have Harbour City – the home of us in Nanaimo! Nanaimo is the best place to start an exploration of the Gulf Islands. The small port town of Sidney is a rustic farming community which also forms a gateway to the Gulf Islands. The Gulf Islands have their own National Park Reserve Status which as you would expect means that they are spectacularly beautiful. The Isle-De-Lis Marine Park is also a great place if you are after an island sail charter.

The West Coast is the most rugged part of this beloved isle. Here we can find Clayoquot Sound, Barkley Sound, Quatsino Sound, Nootka Sound, and Kyuquot Sound. The area is known for its vast ocean swells which can make it a fun island sail charter experience. Because of this, it is a haven for some of the area’s most magnificent wildlife including whales, seals, porpoises and sea otters.  This part of Vancouver Island is a great microcosm – you can experience all of the best parts of the isles in one place!
