Alert Bay is located on Cormorant Island and is well worth a stop over. It is well protected from the Westerly winds. the There is a dock dedicated to visitors for the day. The village is steeped in history and a visit to the U’mista Cultural Centre which houses one of the best collection of decorated Native Masks and Artifacts. Totem Poles can be viewed at the Original ‘Namgis burial grounds. (which is close to the The Visitor Centre) They have been carved in Memory of those who have passed on. Another Totem Pole worth viewing is the World’s Tallest Totem Pole, north along Fir Street/Front Street, and up the hill next to the ‘Namgis Traditional Big House.
