I would not hesitate to highly recommend Nanaimo Yacht Charters. My Dufour 385 (2008 model) has been in the NYC fleet for 5 years and I can confirm that the NYC management team (and their staff) is the most experienced and ethical in the Pacific Northwest.
In terms of your question re: income and costs…my charter income has more than covered the cost of maintaining the vessel to an extremely high standard.
Average weeks under charter over the 5 years has been about 8 weeks…..with a low of 5 weeks and a high of 11 and I still use the boat myself each summer. However, you should not necessarily rely on my experience as a guide in this respect because I don’t know what type of boat you are contemplating and the appeal of the vessel to charter clients is obviously an important factor.
My boat has been maintained in pristine condition and Ian is very good at keeping me informed about repairs that are required during the charter season and also at taking care of the boat over the winter.
Meticulous maintenance is critical to successful charter operations. Basically they care for the boat as if it was their own !
Finally ..it is worth mentioning that Nanaimo itself is a good base for charter boats and for personal cruising….I was based in Comox for the first two years….good jumping off point for Desolation Sound but not so convenient for the Southern Gulf islands.
