A WELL PROTECTED ANCHORAGE
Sail into Mark Bay and drop anchor in a well protected anchorage with good holding ground. Take a picnic ashore. Visit the Pavilion, a grand left over from the dance hall era, and take in some local theatre productions.
Newcastle Island is home to many species of animals with plenty of natural vegetation and an extensive network of walking/hiking trails leading to various historic points along the island. Middens offer evidence of 2 Salish First Nation villages, deserted before the discovery of coal in 1849. A must in the evening is to visit the “Dinghy Dock Pub” either for a drink or a meal.
The fist time in Canadian history that a Pub was registered as a vessel, this family owned and operated pub/restaurant provides a lively bit of local fare with decor comprised mainly of donations from all over the world.
