Saysutshun Island – Nanaimo

Saysutshun Island – Mark Bay

Sail into Mark Bay for your first or last night of your charter.   There is berthing facilities at the island  ($2/ft/night) or pick up one of the mooring buoys ($14/night) in the bay. Mooring buoys maximize the use of  Mark Bay, providing secure moorage whilst protecting the sensitive ecological values of the seabed from dragging anchors.

Saysutshun Island  (formerly Newcastle Island), Marine Provincial Park is home to many species of animals with plenty of natural vegetation and an extensive network of walking/hiking trails.  With breathtaking views of the Coastal Mountains and the Harbour City, the island offers a unique natural, historical and cultural experience.  Explore tidal pools and beaches, forest ecology or one of the many historic Snuneymuxw village sites, sandstone quarries, fish saltery and coal mine sites in the evening is to visit the “Dinghy Dock Pub” either for a drink or a meal.

Situated between Saysutshun Island and Gabriola island is Protection Island.  This mile and a half long island is home to a full service pub and restaurant where minors can dine as well. One of the Dinghy Dock Pub’s claim to fame is that it is the first time in Canadian history that a Pub was registered as a vessel.  The pub provides a lively bit of local fare with decor comprised mainly of nautical donations from all over the world.
